The Pearson Student Leadership Summit on Aug 4-6 in Boston marked the first joining of two remarkable student groupsthe Pearson Student Advisory Board and Pearson Prize Fellowsand jump-started their ongoing relationship with Pearson.
During this intense and high-energy three-day summit, the student leaders got a full understanding of Pearson's values and had the opportunity to network with Pearson staff and entrepreneurs. Josh Biber, Executive Director of Teach for America; James Cleveland, CEO of Jumpstart; Jennifer Corriero, Executive Director of TakingITGlobal; and Gary Hensley, Director of Student Growth at Pearson, formed an entrepreneurial panel in which they shared their professional experiences and answered questions. The student leaders remarked how they would use the entrepreneurs' insight as inspiration to start new initiatives on their respective campuses.
“I was thrilled to get a clear sense of the corporation's exciting vision for the future and its desire to keep students involved.”

Their responsibilities include creating and tracking individual and team goals, training, and facilitating communication among the team to share best practices and program successes.
Regional Coordinators attended general and product sessions with our P&C and A&S sales forces to support their role as team leaders in the Pearson Campus Ambassador program, build their leadership and management skills, and enhance their overall knowledge of Pearson.
Publishing Representative DeeDee Myers is thrilled to announce a new MyMathLab and Blitzer College Algebra adoption at Valdosta State University. DeeDee and her Pearson Campus Ambassador, Crystal Hardy, have been hard at work building and retaining important relationships with professors and students in order to clinch future adoptions.
Crystal HardyPearson Campus AmbassadorValdosta State University
Since all of the professors at Valdosta are new to the MyMathLab technology, Crystal's on-campus presence has been invaluable to DeeDee. Crystal stepped up to the plate to do First Days of Class presentations when DeeDee had to be at two campuses at once. What's more, Crystal has gone above and beyond expectations and set up daily times for students and professors to visit her and get help on the new technologies. The professors love that she was there to help and share her student perspective.
As a student who used MyMathLab for two years in a row, Crystal was able to share her personal Pearson success story with students and professors. She has worked with students one-on-one to show them the MyMathLab tools that they could use to improve their grades. It is exhilarating to see students who were previously adverse to the technologies to transform into Pearson fans.

Former Pearson Student Advisory Board members Ali Huberlie and Brianna Pomatico are developing the Pearson Alumni Connection.
This network will offer many resources for its members, including a website that connects alumni with each other and Pearson professionals. The Connection will also provide updates regarding career opportunities, mentorships, Pearson speaking engagements and events, and philanthropic efforts by the Pearson Foundation and alumni. The network is currently under development, and plans are to have the Pearson Alumni Connection up and running by the National Sales Meeting in January 2011.

Pearson Prize FellowBefore the final Pearson Prize Fellows were announced, I watched all of the application videos on YouTube and thought I didn't stand a chance. But when I found out I had been selected as a winner, I was in shockI couldn't believe I was considered in line with all these amazing people! I am now honored to be a part of the first class of Pearson Prize Fellows.
I applied to many scholarships, but the Pearson Prize is the one that will last. I applied to the Prize because I felt my passion was in line with Pearson's commitment to education and communities. Because of the scholarship, I don't have to worry about college affordability or graduation. But receiving the Prize means more to me than money; it has given me the confidence needed to make big changes in my community.
I met astounding students from around the country at the Pearson Student Leadership Summit and learned about action-planning for social change. Using this knowledge and my newfound confidence, I wrote and presented a business plan to implement a new Student Success group on my campus. I also met the Editor-in-Chief of Student Success & Career Development, Jodi McPherson, who gave me a lot of advice on initiating the new campus program. Working with Jodi helped me access key individuals on my campusincluding an Associate Deanwho will be able to help me towards my goal of providing a mentorship program and college success training. I don't think I would have come this far if it weren’t for the connections I've made at Pearson.

Pearson StudentLearning more about Pearson's mission at the Pearson Student Leadership Summit was an astonishing experience. During our stay, we listened to passionate speakers who truly believe in creating positive change in education. Hearing their ideas on building student success was inspiring and I'm more eager than ever to start my year with my fellow Board members.
I am working with the Pearson College and Career Readiness team and five other Board members to prepare middle and high school students for college success. This includes everything from the college application process to healthy personal habits. Our specific role is to help Pearson build the College and Career Readiness blogs and website by utilizing social media tools. We are all excited to work with Pearson and pass along our college experiences to future students.
I am extremely honored to have been selected as a member of the Pearson family and look forward to making our committee project a success!
